Client Benefits

BASE’s design allows for future flexibility of classroom space by minimizing the interior load bearing elements.

The Science and Design of Structural Engineering

Working with the design team through several stages of value engineering and redesign, BASE was able to provide different design alternatives and structural layouts to provide the Department of Education with cost effective yet durable solutions. BASE utilized masonry construction on the exterior walls and a composite deck with steel frame second floor to provide optimum cost savings and a long lasting structural system. The second floor structural system selected required just two interior columns which allowed architectural freedom on both the first and second floors. Long span, light weight pre-engineered metal trusses were provided on the roof and balcony areas to provide the architectural appearance desired by the client at a low cost compared to competitive systems.
