Akashi manages BASE Guam’s special inspection projects and performs special inspections and quality control during construction. His work focuses on public and private sector large-scale structures, such as military aircraft hangars and the 476,000 SF Tsubaki Tower. In addition to being certified as a Master of Special Inspection, Akashi’s engineering and design experience give him the unique ability to understand not only “how” buildings are constructed but also “why” buildings are detailed in certain ways.
Born and raised in Japan, Akashi moved to Guam in 2007. The tropical weather and warm beaches make the island difficult for him to live anywhere else. His enjoyment for water activities range from kayaking to scuba diving. Living in a fixer-upper-home, Akashi has not been anywhere near the water within the past few months. His hobbies are currently various home repairs – from replacement of light fixtures to the application of roof coating.
