BASELine – Summer 2024

Why BASE is a BFTWF

We’re excited to be #3 on the BFTWF (Best Firm to Work For) list in the structural engineering category. This is our 14th appearance in the national ranking and fifth consecutive year in the top five. The primary reason BASE is a BFTWF is because of our talented, dedicated and service-oriented staff. In this issue we share with you a sample of staff notables during the last quarter.

A Rising Star

Senior Structural Engineer Kevin Galvez was named a 2024 Rising Star in the AEC Industry by Civil + Structural Engineer magazine. He joined our team in 2019 and has managed projects in some of the most isolated places on earth.

Guam Boost

  • Special Inspector Ehab Ibrahim relocated to Guam to support our local office. He is a Master of Special Inspection who joined BASE with 16 years of experience in engineering and construction.
  • Akashi Rouse, our Special Inspection Manager in Guam, traveled to Hawaii to obtain several certifications not available in Guam.

Currently Ehab and Akashi can often be found in and around Camp Blaz, assuring contractor quality on large Navy projects like the $546 million 5-BEQ project.

Congrats, Inspectors!

Michael Ortega and Juan Simosa recently passed certification exams.

  • Michael: ICC Reinforced Concrete and PTI Level 2
  • Juan: ICC Reinforced Concrete, PTI Level 2, and ACI Post-Installed Concrete Installation

Michael can be seen at the University of Manoa campus’ new graduate housing project and Juan at Ulana.

PTI Academy

Anantha Chittur presented Post-Tensioned Design Best Practices – Case Study Examples for PTI Academy. Watching the recording is free, offers 1 PDH credit, and can be seen here. Anantha shared best practices on a range of topics with project examples including layout of tendons within irregular column layouts, long-term deflections, punching shear and shoring/reshoring considerations, shrinkage, transfer girders, etc.
